“Ecoshiki” name is created with two words. One is “Eco”, which stands for our commitment to caring for the environment. And the other is “Shiki”, which means ‘style’ in Japanese.
Ecoshiki was created by a small group of people who care about the environment to introduce one of the most functional yet beautiful Japanese products as an eco-friendly product to people in the UK.
It is probably common for people to link Japan with samurai, sumo wrestlers, geisha, kimono, technology and sushi etc.
However, there are a lot of more unique and attractive cultures and products which exist and have not been revealed in the UK.
Ecoshiki would especially like to introduce Furoshiki.
Furoshiki is a Japanese traditional wrapping cloth, which is used commonly for carrying, storing, spreading on the floor as a mat, and wrapping gifts or protecting goods. Furoshiki is a square piece of fabric designed to be folded around an object and then tied to fasten it together. (No other materials, such as sticky tape or string are required) There are many different folding methods to wrap an object and even to make attractive carrier bags.
Ecoshiki would like to introduce this fantastic Fursohiki culture and the idea of using Furoshiki as an alternative to wrapping paper to people in the UK and hoping that we could contribute to reducing the amount of wrapping paper consumed every year in the UK.
